Free and Equal

“All slaves are free” – with these words finally heard on June 19, 1865, in Galveston Texas, the world changed forever.  I can only imagine!  Each June 19th we commemorate Juneteenth, the day when word of the Emancipation Proclamation made it to the farthest reaches of our Nation in Texas.

Plan the Work Then Work the Plan

For more than 100 years the City of Roanoke has formally planned for its future.  Beginning in 1907 through the work of renowned city planner John Nolen, the City began planning for the extension of its streets, the expansion of its boundaries and the development of its parks and recreation amenities.

Art For the People

I had the opportunity this past weekend to attend the 60th Annual Art Sidewalk Sale put forth by the Taubman Museum of Art.  What a spectacular example of the art that our community has to offer.  Roanoke has long been a supporter of arts and culture.
