ROANOKE POLICE UPDATE INVESTIGATION INTO SHOOTING INCIDENT IN 1300 BLOCK OF BURKS STREET SW

Roanoke, Va.-
The victims in yesterday's shootings in the 1300 block of Burks Street SW have been identified as Michael Cardona Santamarina, age 22, of Roanoke, and Troy Savion Gastelo, age 24, of Roanoke.  Both victims were found in a vehicle.  Both are still in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  The shootings do not appear to be random.  Evidence technicians have collected physical evidence from the scene.  Detectives are in the process of interviewing potential witnesses and establishing a timeline of events before the shootings took place.  No arrests related to the shootings have been made at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information can call the RPD tip line at 540-344-8500.  Callers can choose to remain anonymous.

ROANOKE POLICE INVESTIGATE AFTER DECEASED MAN FOUND IN VEHICLE IN ROANOKE RIVER

At 8:11 this morning [January 6th], Roanoke Police and Roanoke Fire-EMS were dispatched to Vic Thomas Park, behind Black Dog Salvage, after a report of a vehicle being found in the Roanoke River.  Upon confirming that there was a vehicle in the river, Roanoke Fire EMS called its Swift Water Rescue Team to the scene.  The rescue team found an adult male deceased inside the vehicle.  The Roanoke Police Department is handling the investigation.  The body was transported to the state medical examiner's office.  The victim's identity will be released after proper notifications have been made.
